Key Details

The Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Developer Associate (PL-400) certifies technical capability in extending Microsoft Power Platform solutions using custom code and system integrations. Designed for software developers and application leads, this qualification covers custom connectors, PCF components, web resources, and Azure service integration. Certifying your software team to PL-400 allows your organisation to build complex, bespoke enterprise applications that seamlessly interface with legacy software, driving business automation beyond standard low-code configurations.

  • Module 1: Create a Technical Design – Focuses on designing solution architecture, mapping business requirements to technical components, establishing security and authentication strategies, and determining implementation approaches for custom business logic.
  • Module 2: Build Power Platform Solutions – Covers environment configuration, solution packaging, Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) workflows, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using Power Platform Build Tools.
  • Module 3: Implement Power Apps Improvements – Explores optimising canvas and model-driven apps, applying advanced Power Fx formulas, and implementing complex user interface responsiveness.
  • Module 4: Extend the User Experience – Details client-side scripting using JavaScript, command bar customisation, and developing reusable user interface components using the Power Apps Component Framework (PCF).
  • Module 5: Extend the Platform – Examines developing server-side plug-ins in C#, registering custom APIs, managing Dataverse event pipelines, and executing synchronous and asynchronous business logic.
  • Module 6: Develop Integrations – Concentrates on building custom connectors, interacting with Dataverse Web APIs, and integrating Power Platform with Azure services such as Azure Functions and Service Bus.

Candidates engage in continuous formative evaluation throughout the course, using terminal coding exercises and interactive knowledge checks to track technical progress. Summative evaluation is conducted via the official invigilated Microsoft PL-400 examination, a 100-to-120-minute closed-book assessment featuring multiple-choice, drag-and-drop, case study scenarios, and performance-based lab tasks. Candidates must achieve a minimum scaled score of 700 out of 1000 to demonstrate developer competency and earn their certification.

Achieving this certification unlocks direct pathways into senior technical roles, such as Power Platform Developer, Solutions Architect, Dynamics 365 Developer, and Enterprise Software Engineer. Successful candidates are ideally positioned to advance towards expert-level Microsoft credentials, including Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Solution Architect Expert (PL-600) or Azure Developer Associate (AZ-204). Furthermore, this qualification provides a rigorous technical foundation for entry into executive post-candidate studies in enterprise software architecture and cloud engineering.

Ideal candidates will have atleast one year of hands on experience of Power Platform. Candidates lacking formal credentials are welcomed through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), drawing upon practical workplace experience in JavaScript, C#, HTML, RESTful APIs, and database management. A foundational understanding of general programming logic, basic cloud concepts, and Power Platform fundamentals is strongly recommended to ensure maximum learning success.
