Key Details
The CompTIA Linux+ certification validates core system administration skills across major Linux distributions. Tailored for systems administrators, DevOps engineers, and technical support leads, this qualification covers command-line execution, storage management, kernel modules, security configuration, enterprise automation, and containerisation. As Linux powers critical enterprise infrastructure and cloud workloads, upskilling your IT team with Linux+ ensures seamless management of core server environments. It enables technical staff to build secure, stable operating environments, streamline automated deployment pipelines, and maintain high availability across your Linux-based server fleet.
- Module 1: System Management – Covers fundamental Linux administrative tasks, including software package management, system service controls, storage partitioning, and Linux filesystem structures.
- Module 2: Security – Focuses on identity access management, user permissions, network firewall rules, secure remote access, and system hardening using SELinux controls.
- Module 3: Scripting, Containers, and Automation – Details Bash shell scripting techniques, containerisation concepts, version control using Git, and foundational infrastructure as code workflows.
- Module 4: Troubleshooting – Explores diagnostic processes and utilities to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, storage faults, network issues, and user access errors.
Candidates engage in continuous formative evaluation throughout the programme, utilising interactive knowledge checks, terminal lab simulations, and scenario-driven practice exams to track practical progress. Summative evaluation is conducted via the official invigilated CompTIA Linux+ (XK0-005) examination, a 90-minute assessment comprising up to 90 multiple-choice and performance-based scenario items. Candidates must achieve a minimum passing score of 720 (on a scale of 100–900) to demonstrate technical competency and secure their certification.
Achieving CompTIA Linux+ certification opens direct entry into vital technical roles, including Linux Administrator, Cloud Support Engineer, Systems Operations Analyst, and DevOps Specialist. Successful candidates are ideally positioned to advance towards specialised vendor-specific or advanced infrastructure credentials, such as Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, or CompTIA Cloud+. Furthermore, this qualification provides a rigorous technical foundation for entry into executive post-candidate programmes in enterprise infrastructure and cloud strategy.
While there are no mandatory academic or technical prerequisites, candidates should ideally possess around 12 months of hands-on experience in Linux administration or general IT support. Applicants lacking formal qualifications are welcomed through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), leveraging lived workplace experience in systems support, network maintenance, or service desk operations. Possessing foundational knowledge equivalent to CompTIA Network+ or CompTIA Server+ is strongly recommended to ensure optimal progression through the curriculum.
