The Level 4 Associate Project Manager Apprenticeship is ideal for individuals who are new to project management or currently hold a supporting role (such as a Project Administrator, Coordinator, or PMO Analyst) and are ready to step into a formal project management position.
It is aimed at ambitious employees who need a structured, professional qualification to manage small, non-complex projects or contribute effectively to large-scale programmes. This programme suits staff who demonstrate strong leadership potential, organisational skills, and a commitment to achieving business objectives through successful project delivery.
To be eligible for the Level 4 Associate Project Manager Apprenticeship, candidates typically need to meet the following criteria:
- Academic Requirements: They should possess a Level 3 qualification, such as A-Levels, BTECs, or a relevant Level 3 Apprenticeship.
- Numeracy and Literacy: Candidates should be working at a minimum of Level 2 standard for Numeracy and Literacy. If they do not have GCSEs or equivalent qualifications, they will be required to complete an Essential Skills Wales (ESW) qualification in Numeracy, Literacy and Digital during the apprenticeship.
Delivery Model
- 20 monthly workshops focusing on key topics of the Diploma
- Monthly 1:1s with an experienced Project Manager
- On-site / remote observations to gather evidence for portfolio
- Quarterly Fireside Chats with external Project Management professionals
- Optional Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification
Qualification
- Agored Cymru Level 4 Diploma in Project Management (120 credits).
- Assessment is via assignments and a portfolio of work-based evidence. There are no examinations in this Apprenticeship.
Candidates who complete the Level 4 Apprenticeship in Project Management can be given roles with increased responsibility and technical complexity:
- Business Analyst or Change Lead: Their project lifecycle knowledge is highly transferable to roles focusing on identifying business needs and managing the human and structural elements of organisational change.
- Project Manager: They are now qualified to manage more complex, medium-sized projects independently or lead a significant workstream within a major programme.
- Project Team Leader: Leading small teams or work packages, leveraging their skills in planning, resource allocation, and team motivation.
- PMO Analyst/Project Coordinator: Taking on more advanced duties within the Project Management Office (PMO), such as developing governance frameworks, managing project portfolios, or leading reporting and assurance processes.
After completing this apprenticeship you can undertake a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) certification through the Project Management Institute (PMI).
The Higher Apprenticeship in Project Management is fully-funded for individuals who are eligible for Welsh Apprenticeship Funding. To be eligible for a Higher Apprenticeship in Wales you must be:
- Aged 18 or above
- Living in Wales or working at least 51% of your time in Wales
- Employed for at least 16 hours per week or Self Employed; and
- Have the support of your employer to complete the Apprenticeship
A Non-Apprenticeship option to complete the Level 4 Diploma in Project Management is available for participants who do not meet the eligibility criteria for funding. The tuition fees for completing the Diploma are £3,995 inclusive of VAT.
