Skills Bootcamps Funding

Everything you need to know about Skills Bootcamps Funding in England, including how employers and individuals can engage with and benefit, how the funding works and what it covers.

Skills Bootcamps are flexible, short-term training courses designed to fast-track individuals into new jobs in high-demand sectors. They can support employers to upskill existing staff for higher level or emerging roles within their organisation.

Skills Bootcamps differ from Apprenticeships and other types of funded training in England due to their flexibility. The Skills Bootcamp curriculum is led by employers and does not need to contain a regulated qualification, allowing it to be more flexible and targeted to employer needs.

What are Skills Bootcamps?

Skills Bootcamps are a cornerstone of the UK Government’s Skills for Life strategy. They are designed to provide rapid, high-impact technical training to bridge critical skills gaps in the economy. This funding is primarily aimed at adults (19+) to help them transition into higher-value roles, and for businesses to upskill their existing workforce at a significantly subsidised rate.

For Individuals

Skills Bootcamps can help you develop new skills that employers are looking for. They’re a great opportunity to train in a new industry or progress in your current career.

To be eligible for a Skills Bootcamp you must be aged 19 or above and be living in England. You do not need to have any previous knowledge in the subject. You just need to speak a good level of English and have a willingness to learn.

At the end of your Skills Bootcamp you will be offered a guaranteed interview with an employer for a relevant role, or you will be supported to progress in your current role. The support you receive will last for six months from completion of your Skills Bootcamp.

For Employers

Skills Bootcamps funding provides a mechanism to upskill your workforce in the latest technologies. Employers can engage with Skills Bootcamps in three ways:

  • Hire a Skills Bootcamp Graduate for free by taking part in the guaranteed interviews scheme at the end of a Skills Bootcamp.
  • Upskill existing staff for a small contribution, the remainder being paid by the UK Government via the relevant Local Authority of Mayoral Combined Authority (MCA).
  • Inform the development of Skills Bootcamps to ensure they deliver on your organisation’s skills requirements.

Large employers are required to contribute 30% of the cost of the Skills Bootcamp, whereas Small and Medium Sized (SME) employers only need to contribute 10% of the total cost.

What is funded?

The funding covers the full delivery of flexible training programmes lasting up to 16 weeks. This includes:

  • Tuition: A minimum of 60 guided learning hours (100 hours for digital subjects) of “learn-by-doing” training.
  • Wraparound Support: Funding for career coaching, CV workshops, and mentoring to ensure participants are “job-ready.”
  • Guaranteed Interviews: For unemployed or self-employed learners, the funding mandates a guaranteed interview with a local employer upon completion.
  • Accreditation: The funding supports the delivery of RQF-regulated qualifications (typically Levels 3–5) or industry-standard vendor certifications, where relevant and value-add for the organisation and the individual.

How the co-funding works

If you are an eligible organisation co-funding your employee to undertake a Skills Bootcamp, you will be required to make a funding contribution as described above.

The training provider will invoice you for the co-funding contribution. At iungo, we will submit our invoice to you on the start date of the Skills Bootcamp, with 30 day net payment terms. VAT is applicable and is added to the co-funding contribution.
