You’ll be diving deep into what makes IT systems and data vulnerable—basically, where the weak spots are.

We’re talking about two main types of attacks:

  1. The “Oops” (Accidental Threats): Think someone clicking on a bad link by mistake, or a network cable getting unplugged.
  2. The “Gotcha” (Malicious Threats): This is the serious stuff—hackers trying to break in, steal info, or crash a network on purpose.

You will learn about the vulnerabilities (the open doors) and the tools and techniques (the locks and alarm systems) used to keep everything safe. The goal is to stop the bad stuff from happening, like:

  • Losing all the data (gone forever).
  • Data integrity issues (the data gets messed up or changed).
  • Unauthorized access (strangers seeing private files).

Thanks to funding from the Adult Skills Fund, via Learn Devon, Devon County Council and the UK Government, this course is free if you meet the following criteria.

  • Aged 19-23
  • Living in North Devon or Torridge area
  • Not achieved a full level 3 qualification (e.g. A Levels)
