Last week, iungo Solutions represented Cardiff and Vale College and the cross-college Centre of Industrial Excellence for Industry 4.0 at Coleg Cambria’s Digital Manufacturing Skills Expo in Connah’s Quay, Deeside.
We’ve been working with CAVC since the new year on an exciting pathway of learning interventions to upskill FE lecturers for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Starting with an interactive Virtual Reality experience, lecturers can immerse themselves in a travel through time, exploring the key characteristics of previous industrial revolutions and what’s new about Industry 4.0.
Our level 2 course builds upon the historical context introducing new post-Fordian concepts such as Lot Size One, Servitisation and the Circular Economy. A bespoke monopoly-style board game and a plug-and-play IoT demonstrator offer multiple learning opportunities through the medium of play.
At level 3 lecturers get the chance to experiment with a digital twin and build key components of an industry 4.0 data system. An industry tour of the Control 2K facility in Bridgend is included, with a focus on upgrading and retrofitting Industry 3.0 equipment with next generation capabilities.
Each upskilling course builds into a 10-week fulltime intense Industry 4.0 Coding Academy. We recently piloted this programme with 15 learners from the Vale of Glamorgan region with support from the Cardiff Capital Region and employer endorsement from recent inward investor inmation UK, Bot-Hive, Control 2K, and Awen Collective.
During our collaboration, we have learned that:
- VR is extremely effective in engaging an audience
- Physical and digital gamification are key to conveying high level concepts
- Project-based work is critical to embedding knowledge
- Demand from industry is driving a skills revolution
