
Introduction to 3D Printing

Learn how 3D printing can add value to your organisation with this one-day hands-on workshop. Design, model and adapt 3D objects for additive manufacturing processes, discover different printing technologies, and learn to set-up and calibrate a 3D printer to create accurate 3D products. Gain hands-on experience in 3D design and printing and learn about complementary technologies such as 3D scanning.
There are no prerequisite entry requirements for this programme. This programme is suitable for everyone including engineers, technicians, and business and administrative professionals.
- The 3D CAD design process
- Manipulating 3D CAD models using Blender
- Optimising 3D models for print (DfAM – Design for Additive Manufacture)
- An overview of 3D printing technologies, materials and applications
- An introduction to the 3D printing process and waste free production
- Health and Safety and PPE for operating 3D printers
- Setting and calibrating a 3D printer and confirming accuracy
- Comparison to traditional methods such as CNC machining
- An introduction to 3D scanning technologies
After completing this programme, you could study a 2D and 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) short course, or materials science or design engineering at level 3 or above depending on experience. You could also complete the Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt.
